Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
Andrea Durfee and Ashley Durfee, sister-friends, co-owners and creators of Louelle Design Studio.  We specialize in wedding and event invitations and personal branding.  Our focus is on custom branded design, creating tangible experiences through our invitations and paper goods. We start each experience from scratch, so that our product truly tells the story of who we are creating for.

What are your passions? What makes you tick?
The desire and need to lead an authentic life that allows for creative exploration and collaboration. We have a passion for creating artisan pieces that capture special moments and memories.  We also love a great hand-dyed silk ribbon and fluffy cotton paper!

How did you get started? What were some of the difficulties you faced?
This partnership started while creating Andrea’s wedding invites together, but we didn’t know it at the time. A few months later  (and a couple glasses of wine) we made our business official and the rest is history! We wanted to create a life that allowed us to live creatively and at a slower more mindful pace, with time for loved ones and family. The biggest difficulty is reordering life and making financial/stability sacrifices to allow for taking a scary leap like opening a small business and doing what you love.

What is your biggest regret?
We are constantly learning and growing as artists, designers and small business owners. If we don’t get it right the first time, you can bet we will keep trying until we do.

What is your best advice to someone just starting out? What advice do you wish someone had said to you?
It can be hard having all your ducks in a row. Making sure you have a solid business plan will save a lot of confusion and keep you on track.  Also, remember to laugh!  It is not always going to go how you expected, but that is sometimes the greatest part of the adventure!

What is your favorite part of what you do?
Andrea: The opportunity to create daily and do what I love with one of my best friends.
Ashley:  Ditto!  I love when our casual conversations turn into our greatest ideas.

As Louelle we love creating for our clients.  Our favorite part is seeing our clients personalities and story come through the work we have created for them.

Name some local creatives/small business owner that you really admire?
We know how difficult and scary it is to be a small business owner and respect all the brave creative women out there making it happen. We are stronger together and have loved all the collaborations we’ve done with local creatives. It helps grow new ideas and inspires.
